Guillermo Del Toro was officially hired in April 2008 to direct the line cinema for fantasy film, which he would co-write with Jackson and his Rings films collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Del toro posted and left the production and Del Toro responded that all his hard work would be thrown away if the studio got too frustrated.

The storyline encapsulates your attention and keeps you hooked till the last possible minute. Every sequence is shot with a purpose and satiates your creative side. You want to watch this trilogy not because the world loved it but because it’s an experience of a lifetime.

In this blog, we have listed the motion picture trilogy Hobbit movies in order (chronologically). If — after watching all these — your appetite for fantasy movies is still unfulfilled, you can also take a look at our other films blogs on Narnia movies in order and Harry Potter movies in order.

The best way to watch the trilogy is by avoiding spoilers and that is exactly why we’ve kept this listicle to spoilers free but with enough information to get your enthusiastic about this solid franchise.

To start with, The Hobbit trilogy is a prequel to The Lord of The Rings and is based on the world created by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Middle-Earth is a world where hobbits and elves reside — at the same time, there are evil forces that are power hungry and fueled with a desire to unleash hell. Although the Rings movies were the first ones to release on the Silver Screen, this prequel succeeded in establishing record numbers at the Box Office.

Many people have watched The Lord of The Rings before The Hobbit, by default, but you don’t have to. We have assorted the trilogy by timeline and in chronological order. And since a new series is coming to your screens very soon, it’s better to either revise your memories or get accustomed to the worldwide phenomenon.

Let’s begin the list of three movies of hobbit films without further ado for warner bros movies!

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Director: Peter Jackson

Stars: Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Richard Armitage

IMDb Rating: 7.8/10

This first movie would be considered our introduction to the world created by J. R. R. Tolkien — inspired and adapted by Tolkien’s 1937 novel, The Hobbit is a story that took place in Middle-Earth.

In this fantasy genre, as the title suggests, it’s an unexpected journey of Bilbo Baggins who enlists thirteen dwarves for a mission to recapture the Lonely Mountain.

Currently, it’s ruled by wizard gandalf. There are so many moments that lighten your mood while the dwarves are led by Thorin Oakshield. If you’re embarking on this unexpected journey, this hobbit movie is the place to begin.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014)

Director: Peter Jackson

Stars: Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage

IMDb Rating: 7.4/10

This is the third and final instalment of Peter Jackson’s three-part story.

The movie picks up from where the last movie ended — we discover that the dragon Smaug had set the Laketown ablaze and only two people witnessed that atrocity.

There is another character who barely manages to escape his imprisonment and ends up doing what we’ve always anticipated.

Bilbo, of course, battles to safeguard the lives of his companions and protects the Lonely Mountain once the fight breaks out.

Peter Jackson Wanted to Direct the Films

When Peter Jackson was developing his original Lord of the Rings trilogy, he planned to compress the entire story into just two films, fearing that no studio would be willing to take a chance on three. When New Line suggested making an entire trilogy, with one film dedicated to each book, the director was pleasantly surprised, and this proved to be a key factor in The Lord of the Rings’ success, allowing sufficient time for the story to progress naturally. The Hobbit, on the other hand, had the exact opposite effect. Guillermo del Toro’s original plan was to split The Hobbit into two films, but Jackson added a third after taking over, turning a single, modestly-sized novel into three movies creating a new line cinema.

Del Toro left the Production

Del Toro announced to leave the production after Del Toro spent two years. Here’s why Peter Jackson was forced to step in. Del Toro’s pacing of the film was slower than Jackson’s.

The schedule was not changed when Jackson took over the Hobbit films from original director Guillermo del Toro. He was not given the time he needed to storyboard and redesign the world to his specifications.
