Hold on to your seat because we’ll help you zoom through all Fast and Furious movies in order of release date AND in chronological order!
Whether you’re a Fast and Furious veteran or a newbie to the series, what you’re really coming for, all things considered, is completely out-of-control action and thrills, right?
You come to the Fast and Furious franchise for the thrills, regardless matter whether the earlier films in the series focused on illegal street racing or the later ones, which are basically about literal superhuman spy heists and things.
Furthermore, starting immediately could be a little complicated if you’re unfamiliar with the Fast and Furious franchise.
The fast saga series starts with The Fast and the Furious (2001), which follows an undercover cop Brian O’Conner who intermingles himself with a heist crew run by Dominic Toretto. Throughout the rest of the series, we’re introduced to many iconic characters such as Han Lue, Gisele Yashar, and Luke Evans.
Whether you’re a new fan of the Fast series or someone looking to re-watch the Fast Saga, we’ve broken down the Fast and Furious list in order, chronologically, and by order of release. There is no absolute way to watch these movies, and the haphazard timelines mean they can be watched easily without putting in too much effort.

How To Watch The Fast And Furious Movies in Chronological Order in France
Although most Fast and the Furious in order are sequels to one another, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift stands out as an exception.
Tokyo Drift was the third Fast movie to hit theatres, really takes place between Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7. Moving away from the story of Brian and Dom, the movie centers on a brand-new cast of people, including Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), a student who is compelled to relocate to Japan in order to avoid going to jail.
The films are listed below in chronological order to watch Fast and Furious:
The Fast and the Furious Timeline
So if you are wondering how many films are in Fast and Furious in order, we are here with the timeline.
To make matters confusing, the Fast and Furious franchise includes a number of high-speed sequels, prequels, and midquels. Most of these shorts were developed for the original films’ DVD releases, shedding light on previously undisclosed aspects of the fast-paced saga’s history.
The short film Turbo-Charged Prelude, which was first released on the DVD of 2 Fast 2 Furious, explains how Brian (Paul Walker) transitioned from being an LAPD cop to a criminal.
The next short film, centered on Dom, was made available to enthusiasts as a DVD bonus feature. Unfortunately, it does not explain how Brian became a full-fledged FBI agent in the next movie.

Watching these films in the order in which they were released enables you to experience certain unexpected revelations that change everything the way they were intended theatrically, just like with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, and even the X-Men films.

The Fast and Furious (2001)
The first on our list of Fast and the Furious movies in order introduces you to the action-packed culture of drag racing. Brian O’Connor (Paul Walker) goes undercover as a cop and joins the heist crew run by Dominic Toretto because of illegal street racing.
It gets complicated when Brian develops a cordial relationship with Dominic and a romantic interest in his sister, Mia (Jordana Brewster). We later meet Letty Ortiz, a constant throughout the series.
Move to the next film, cause it is already getting exciting!
Furthermore, if you need to watch more movies in order in France, like the DC Movies in the order you can watch them without any hassle.
2 Fast 2 Furious (2003)
- Director: John Singleton
- Introducing: Tyrese Gibson, Paul Walker, Cole Hauser
- IMDb Rating: 5.9/10
- Runtime: 1h 47m
- Where to watch: Peacock, or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
This film doesn’t feature Vin Diesel. Instead, it follows the events of The Fast and the Furious. In this spin-off film fast, two integral characters are introduced: Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce and Ludacris as Tej Parker.
Brian is a high point bro in this movie, displaying a personality feature that we haven’t seen before or after, but it’s a sight to behold.
It’s a miracle that the brand survived after this ridiculous sequel. However, the latter films found a way to relate it to the broader series, which is rather astounding.
Aside from Fast and Furious movies in order, if you really like some fantasy movies, then we have got you covered with Harry Potter Movies in order.
The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)
- Director: Justin Lin
- Introducing: Lucas Black, Shad Moss, Zachery Ty Bryan
- IMDb Rating: 6.0/10
- Runtime: 1h 44m
- Where to watch: HBO Max, or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
This is where we take a massive U-turn and reboot! The movie was set in Japan and featured Han (Sung Kang), which sets the scene confusing its fans immensely.
This trip to Tokyo bypassed Brian and Dom in favor of the future ‘drift king’ Sean. They could have easily maintained this as a spin-off picture with very little to do with the wider franchise, but in classic geek fashion, they made the movie’s climax an essential narrative element for a sequel that appeared nine years later.
Basically, this was all due to Han, who is murdered in this movie, but everyone adored him so much that they devised a way to bring him back into the picture by postponing the inevitable.
Fast & Furious (2009)
- Director: Justin Lin
- Introducing: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez
- IMDb Rating: 6.6/10
- Runtime: 1h 47m
- Where to watch: Peacock, fuboTV, or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
Albeit the title is confusing, this third movie is actually third chronologically, and story-wise, it is an immediate sequel to the first. We find the wholesome duo of Walker and Diesel back together, along with a new entry Han Lue (Sung Kang), a former associate of Dom.
We’re also introduced to team member Gisel (Gal Gadot), and timeline-wise, this movie takes place three years after the release of Tokyo Drift on Fast and Furious in order.
Fast Five (2011)
- Director: Justin Lin
- Introducing: Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson
- IMDb Rating: 7.3/10
- Runtime: 2h 10m
- Where to watch: Peacock, or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
This furious film goes supremely off track from the previous movies. Now, this movie made many viewers stand up and say, “Shit, when did Fast and Furious flicks get this good?” Lowering the street racing theme and changing to robbery action was obviously beneficial, but bringing in ‘franchise-saver’ Dwayne Johnson was also brilliant.
Tej and Roman from the second picture returned, as did Vince from the first movie, for a huge cast list that nevertheless worked wonderfully.
Fast and Furious 6 (2013)
- Director: Justin Lin
- Introducing: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker
- IMDb Rating: 7.0/10
- Runtime: 2h 10m
- Where to watch: HBO Max, or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
We’re propelled 6 months into the future after Fast Five, where the team is reunited in a furious film, but we say goodbye to Brian O’Conner. This film raised the stakes with amazing action sequences and a superb cast, and then seeing the Rock smash London to pieces is worth paying the ticket price alone.
Letty returns after a one-movie absence, and that instant when The Stath unexpectedly appears when you least expect it was one of the greatest post-credits scenes ever.
Furious 7 (2015)
- Director: James Wan
- Introducing: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Paul Walker
- IMDb Rating: 7.1/10
- Runtime: 2h 17m
- Where to watch: Sling TV or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, seeks retaliation against Dominic Toretto’s gang for including his sibling, Owen Shaw, from Fast & Furious 6. After a few scary moments and a one-on-one fight between Dom and Shaw, Luke Hobbs enters to rescue the day.
Sadly, this is the final time we meet Brian O’Connor because Paul Walker perished in a real accident. Lucas Luke Hobbs is a retired Diplomatic Security Service agent.
Hobbs, a Fast and Furious franchise hero, was originally charged with tracking down and apprehending fugitives Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner after they were falsely accused of killing three DEA officers. One of the best Fast and Furious movies in order in the entire list to watch in France.
The Fate of the Furious (2017)
- Director: F. Gary Gray
- Introducing: Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham,
- IMDb Rating: 6.6/10
- Runtime: 2h 16m
- Where to watch: Rentable on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, or Vudu
We carry on the franchise with the eighth movie in place, just a few months after Furious 7. This film introduces us to some powerful women, such as the villain Cipher (Charlize Theron) and Magdalene Shaw (Helen Mirren).
Dom is pushed to go rogue and abandon his family after major baddie Cipher harasses him into serving her. With Brian and Mia retired Dom is pushed to go rogue and betray his family.
Mr. Nobody seeks Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw to help Hobbs, and his squad finds Dom, knockdown Cipher, and… save the world.
Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)
- Director: David Leitch
- Introducing: Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, Jason Statham
- IMDb Rating: 6.5/10
- Runtime: 2h 17m
- Where to watch: Rentable on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, or Vudu
After the Ninth film, The furious franchise takes a detour here, as it’s not a continuation of the core fast and furious timeline series but actually a spin-off.
We’re not entirely sure when this spinoff takes place, but the furious films see The Rock and Statham paired together up against Idris Elba and it’s being speculated that it takes place after the upcoming F9.
Hobbs and Shaw are compelled to work together to take down Brixton, a malware-enhanced bad guy, to avert a bio-threat that could forever transform civilization. And it’s a family thing, as Shaw’s sister Hattie joins them and Hobbs’ entire family in Samoa as the unlikely heroes must save the world (again).
F9 (2021)
- Director: Justin Lin
- Introducing: Charlize Theron, Nathalie Emmanuel, Alan Ritchson
- IMDb Rating: 8/10
- Runtime: 2h 23m
- Where to watch: HBO Max, or rentable on Amazon Prime Video
When the series appeared to be stagnant, with no new roads to explore, Justin Lin seized the wheel and drove it, racing back from the dead. So, after the climax of Fate of the Furious, he’d be the one waiting at the pit stop to refuel.
The last chapters of the Fast Saga begin filming in January 2022, but F9 gives the series just the jolt it needs to propel it to the finale. The set pieces are larger, bigger, more (literally) stupider than they’ve once been, yet the soul remains intact. After 20 years, there’s plenty of gas in the tank, even without Paul Walker and the Rock.
Fast X
- Director: Louis Leterrier
- Introducing: Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster
- IMDb Rating: N/A
- Runtime: N/A
- Where to watch: not released yet
An upcoming action movie, titled Fast X, will be directed by Louis Leterrier and written by Justin Lin and Dan Mazeau. It is the follow-up to F9, the tenth main chapter, and the eleventh full-length feature in the Fast & Furious series.
The movie’s plot of Fast and Furious order specifics are closely guarded secrets. However, the potential for Fast X seems limitless, considering the history of previous films.
Family members have already traveled to space. Who can predict their future destinations? Fast X has a lot of secrets behind the covers, according to Vin Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto.
