James Gunn Support Chris Pratt On Twitter Amid Call For Removing Him As Star-Lord

James Gunn, the director of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” is defending Chris Pratt in the face of social media speculation that he should be replaced as the franchise’s lead.

After starring in the teaser for the forthcoming Thor film, Love and Thunder, the Star-Lord actor is under new scrutiny.

Pratt was the topic of a popular tweet on Sunday, April 24, that includes side-by-side photographs of Pratt and Patrick Wilson, who plays the Conjuring and Aquaman. The tweet demanded Pratt’s ouster from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and offered Wilson as a replacement, despite Wilson’s uncanny likeness to Pratt. Gunn, on the other hand, was not having it.

Pratt has been chastised for his affiliation with Hillsong Church, which has been dubbed “infamously anti-LGBTQ” by celebrities like Elliot Page.“If you are a famous actor and you belong to an organization that hates a certain group of people, don’t be surprised if someone simply wonders why it’s not addressed,” Page tweeted in 2019, after calling Pratt out directly for his connection with Hillsong. “Being anti LGBTQ is wrong, there aren’t two sides. The damage it causes is severe. Full stop.”

At the time, Pratt said “nothing could be further from the truth” regarding the anti-LGBTQ+ claims lodged against Hillsong, adding “I go to a church that opens their doors to absolutely everyone…. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man.”

To the viral tweet, Gunn replied, “For what?” “Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him that’s not true? Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him.”

Another person asked the director if he was “cool with him being part of a homophobic church,” to which Gunn replied: “He isn’t”.

“I know the church he currently goes to. Do you? (The answer is you don’t, but you heard from someone who heard from someone who heard from someone where he goes to church, so decided, ‘yeah, okay, I’ll believe this terrible thing I heard online about this celebrity!’)”.

Gunn isn’t the only MCU member who is rooting for Pratt. In 2020, when the debate about who was the “worst Chris” in Hollywood briefly swept over the internet, the Hulk and Iron Man—a.k.a. Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr.—joined forces to defend Star-Lord.

“You all, @prattprattpratt is as solid a man there is,” tweeted Ruffalo. “I know him personally, and instead of casting aspersions, look at how he lives his life. He is just not overtly political as a rule. This is a distraction. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize, friends. We are so close now.” Downey, meanwhile, responded on Instagram, posting a photo with Pratt and calling him “brother” as well as “a real #Christian who lives by #principle” that “has never demonstrated anything but #positivity and #gratitude.”

Gunn was sacked from the “Guardians” franchise in 2018 when a lot of inflammatory comments from his past resurfaced, and Pratt backed him up.

Later, Gunn was reinstated.

Gunn directed Pratt in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will be released on May 5, 2023, as well as a Christmas special in which Will Poulter has been casted as Adam Warlock . Pratt will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe this summer in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, which will be released on July 8.
