Amazon Studios was able to outbid four other studios and streaming services to get the rights to produce a body swap comedy starring Julia Roberts and Jennifer Aniston. This film promises to be one of the most entertaining films of the year, and fans of both actresses are already eagerly awaiting its release.
The news follows the success of the unexpected box office hit, Ticket to Paradise, which re-teamed Roberts with the megastar George Clooney for the fifth time on-screen since the two actors first collaborated on Steven Soderbergh’s highly influential heist comedy, Oceans Eleven.
Roberts most recently appeared as Martha Mitchell opposite Sean Penn in the 2022 mini-series Gaslit, a contemporary take on the Watergate scandal that focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the time. The film was directed by Ol Parker and followed a divorced couple who band together to prevent their daughter’s marriage. Yet, most of the public recognizes Roberts from her supporting parts in ’90s romantic comedies like Pretty Woman, My Best Friend’s Wedding, and Maggi.
However, Aniston, whose fan-favorite, trend-setting character Rachel made the iconic Rachel haircut famous, has had a fruitful career in television and cinema. The films Office Christmas Party, Dumplin’, and Cake are among the most recent entries to her oeuvre. With Reese Witherspoon, she also starred in and hosted the TV show “The Morning Show.” She has also worked with Adam Sandler again in recent years, this time for the Netflix original Murder Mystery (which has a sequel in the works). The two of them also starred in the funny 2011 romantic comedy Just Go With It together. Jennifer Aniston is no stranger to comedy, with a long list of hilarious films under her belt. From “Friends” to “Marley & Me” to “The Break-Up,” Aniston has proven time and time again that she is a master of comedy, much like her potential body swap comedy co-star.
The movies section of Amazon Prime is so vast that you could spend weeks watching every movie there and yet not see them all. Since his 2020 time loop comedy starring Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti, sold at Sundance to Neon and Hulu for a then-festival record sum, Barbakow has become attached to many high-profile projects. In addition to Roberts and her Red Om Films brand and Aniston’s Echo Films, Barbakow will also be a producer. After being proposed early last week, moviegoers may have to wait a while to hear more about the body swap film starring Aniston and Roberts.
