What to expect on the championship round of the BTCC

As the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship buckles up for the most-awaited finale, five contenders are left battling on the fast lane. The drivers of the different teams will meet head to head at Brands Hatch GP circuit on the 23rd and 24th of October.

On the track, you should see Ashley Sutton, Colin Turkington, Tom Ingram, Jake Hill and Josh Cook race to victory. Respectively, the drivers will be behind the following cars: Infiniti Q50, BMW 3 Series, Hyundai i30 Fastback N, Ford Focus and a Honda Civic Type R.

Ashley Sutton holds the 2020 BTCC Champion title and is still currently leading the leaderboards for the current event. He’s leading the leaderboard with 308 despite garnering just a few points at the Oulton Park, the fourth event of the tourney. Ingram comes 33 short of a tie with 275, Turkington with 274, Jake Hill with 267 and Josh Cook with 262.

Surely, a close finals round can be expected at Brands Hatch GP, especially between the top 2 contenders, Sutton and Ingram. Along with the heat of rubbers speeding through the track, expect a sunny start to the finale and a chance of rain on the last day of the cup.

About Brands Hatch GP Circuit

Brands Hatch is famous for its top-notch view of the action with different vantage points of both the track and the surrounding nature of Westkingdom, Kent. It’s Britain’s favorite track for different motor racing sports and that’s not so surprising.

Given its challenging and breath-taking setup, both for the drivers and the thousands of racing fans, it sure is a circuit for the finale. Like the other circuits, Brands Hatch boasts a mixture of dips, corners, hills, and chambers that will make the viewers clench to their seats and the drivers aim for maximum accuracy.

The circuit has been the home of many memorable and legendary finales. It’s been a part of the sport and the BTCC series since 1958.

Last year, BTCC utilized the circuit for its 2nd event and its finale. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, fans were not allowed to witness the rubber burning against the track first-hand.

This is the reason why BTCC 2021 is so special. It has been received with the utmost excitement among the fans. After 2 years of being closed-off, the Brands Hatch venue will finally be open to spectators.

BTCC 2021 teams and drivers

So far, BTCC 2021 has been full of surprises, especially involving this year’s teams and their rosters. By now, you should know that Speedworks star, or should we say, Toyota Gazoo Racing’s star Tom Ingram has parted ways with the team. Now, he’s building his new reputation with Excelr8 handling a Hyundai i30 Fastback.

Laser Tools and Team Hard have now merged. Amid the breakups, defending champ Ash Sutton and Aiden Moffats remain loyal to Laser Tools Racing. The team has also welcomed a new addition, Carl Boardley, a former Team Hard driver.

Following last year’s COVID season, BTCC 2021 has managed to present a full-capacity grid of 29 cars.

BTCC Chief Executive Alan Gow said, “Although we are all going through this most incredibly gruelling period, it’s an enormous testament to the strength and popularity of the BTCC that we have a full entry.”

“Even more remarkable is the fact that a third of the grid will be new-build cars that have been constructed in the off-season. All of which means that we have yet another fabulous, and even more unpredictable, season in store.”
