In today’s news, I’m excited to share that BBC Studios has just acquired the Spanish production company Brutal Media. This strategic move is part of BBC Studios’ effort to expand its production network globally.

By joining forces with Brutal Media, BBC Studios can meet the growing demand for its content among Spanish viewers and help Brutal Media bring Spanish creative works to global viewers. While the deal’s financial details remain under wraps, the partnership marks an important step in BBC Studios’ international expansion.

BBC-Acquires-Spanish-Producer-Brutal-MediaLeading Brutal Media founders Raimon Masllorens and Nèlida Sanchez will stay on board, ensuring the company continues its successful trajectory. Meanwhile, BBC Studios’ Isabel Durán transitions into a new role as head of entertainment within Brutal Media, highlighting the collaborative nature of this acquisition.

Jacob de Boer, Executive VP of Global Entertainment at BBC Studios, had this to say:

This agreement with Brutal Media is the natural next step for B

BC Studios to expand our presence in the Spanish market. With their local expertise, strong local network and exciting development slate, Brutal Media is the perfect partner to produce the high-quality Spanish language content that we know local and global audiences are looking for.

Under this new agreement, Brutal Media isn’t slowing down. The company will keep developing and marketing its original content in Spain and produce local versions of BBC Studios’ unscripted and scripted formats.

Outside of Spain, BBC Studios will take the reins in distributing and producing Brutal Media’s formats, showcasing the synergy between the two companies. Hopefully, we’ll be able to watch them all on BBC iPlayer abroad.

This acquisition is a significant milestone for BBC Studios, expanding its production base to 12 international markets. It’s part of BBC Studios’ ambitious plan to double its business size within the next few years, building on its recent expansion with the acquisition of Werner Film Productions in Australia.

Founded in 2009, Brutal Media has made a name by producing hit shows for global streaming platforms and local broadcasters, spanning various genres.

Some of its standout projects include the Netflix miniseries “Asalto Al Banco Central,” series like “Welcome to Eden,” “The Hockey Girls,” and the romantic comedy “I Love You Stupid,” among others. Their partnership with BBC Studios is poised to bring even more exciting content to viewers around the globe.
