I remember vividly, though still with a pinch of disbelief when Suits wrapped up its final chapter in 2019. It was a series adorned with a stellar cast – Patrick J Adams, Gabriel Macht, Meghan Markle, Rick Hoffman, Sarah Rafferty, and Gina Torres, to name a few.
This show brought us into the high-stakes world of a New York City law firm, following Mike Ross (played by Patrick J Adams), who bluffs his way into a prestigious legal position despite never stepping foot in law school.
Their partnership, full of courtroom victories and the constant tension of guarding Mike’s secret, is the stuff of legend.
In a glorious double win, the BBC has also snagged St. Denis Medical and the continuation of the Best Man film saga, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, for our viewing pleasure on BBC iPlayer abroad and other BBC TV channels.
Sue Deeks, head of BBC Programme Acquisition, said:
“This is a really exciting and enjoyable trio of star-studded series: the hotly-anticipated comedy, St Denis Medical, the sassy, romantic comedy-drama, The Best Man: The Final Chapters, and the smart and stylish legal drama, Suits.
“We couldn’t be more delighted to bring them all to BBC viewers.”
Adding to the excitement, St. Denis Medical introduces us to a hilarious workplace comedy in a struggling Oregon hospital. The show takes us inside St. Denis Medical Centre, where devoted yet overwhelmed doctors and nurses strive to care for their patients while keeping their wits about them.
The cast is a comedy powerhouse featuring Wendi McLendon-Covey from The Goldbergs, Allison Tolman of Fargo fame, Josh Lawson and Kaliko Kauahi, both known for their roles in Superstore, Mekki Leeper from The Sex Lives of College Girls, Kahyun Kim of 9-1-1, and David Alan Grier from The Color Purple.
On the other hand, we have The Best Man: The Final Chapters.
This one revisits the beloved characters from the Universal film series by Malcolm D. Lee, featuring stars like Taye Diggs, Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, and more. It dives into their relationship dynamics, highlighting how they navigate old conflicts and new challenges during midlife.
Here’s to hoping that BBC continues to bring us these classics because a world with more TV shows is a world I want to live in.
