I’m so excited to inform you about the return of Great Coastal Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo guiding us again. As a huge fan of BBC shows, I couldn’t wait to share this news with you.
Michael is taking us on a new adventure, exploring the stunning landscapes and fascinating cultures along the coastlines of the British Isles and even a bit of France. I’ll be watching it all on BBC iPlayer abroad using my trusty ExpressVPN.

This time, we’ll travel from the mysterious petrified forest in Borth, Wales, to the gorgeous Tresco Abbey in the Isles of Scilly and check out the sea defenses on the east coast.
Michael’s going to show us the special places and stories of Britain’s coastal towns and cities, exploring their connection to the sea and the forces of nature and history that shaped them.
And there’s more! Michael will also take us across the English Channel to visit Pas de Calais in Northern France. Imagine riding in the front of the Eurostar, watching the tunnel, and then emerging into the sunlight of France. We’ll get a peek into the fascinating culture and heritage there.
The show will take us through beautiful seaside towns, historical landmarks, and natural wonders. From uncovering ancient secrets in Lyme Regis to exploring the historic coasts of Kent and the challenging waters off Norfolk, every episode will be a journey into the beauty of Britain’s coasts, all by train.
Michael Portillo shared,
“I am delighted to present a third series of Great Coastal Railway Journeys. I’ve loved meeting amazing people and learning the history and legends of our coastline.”
Alex McLeod from BBC Daytime said,
“This show is a perfect example of the engaging travel routes in the UK and beyond that audiences can enjoy from their homes, with Michael as a knowledgeable guide.”
The team behind the show, Alison Kreps and John Comerford from Naked West, a Fremantle label, are just as thrilled. They can’t wait to share the beauty of Britain and France’s coasts with us. John Comerford added:
“Exploring the UK’s magical shorelines has shown us the country from a whole new perspective.”
The BBC team sets up the show, ready to bring us another series of coastal adventures.
Keep an eye out for “Great Coastal Railway Journeys,” coming soon to BBC Two and BBC iPlayer. I can’t wait to see where Michael takes us this time!
