Fast and Furious Movies in Order in 2022 [Release Date & Chronological]

Hold on to your seat, coz we’re going to help you zoom through every Fast and Furious movie in order of release date AND in chronological order!

Fast 9 has just released earlier last year and we couldn’t be happier! It brought the whole gang back together with its familiar fast pace, ridiculous action stunts, and upholding ‘family’ values.

Taking a jog down memory lane, the era of the early 2000s saw the emergence of The Fast and the Furious movie, a simple concept that transformed into a massive billion-dollar franchise. The movies were full of overtly seductive women, fast cars, and burly men.

What more could the audiences want? It was a massive hit at the box office and, over the years, its sequels were created to keep the spirit of the movies alive. The movies are presented by universal pictures.

The fast saga series starts with The Fast and the Furious (2001), which follows an undercover cop Brian O’Conner who intermingles himself into a heist crew run by Dominic Toretto. Throughout the rest of the series, we’re introduced to many iconic characters such as Han Lue (Sung Kang), weapons expert Gisele Yashar (Gal Gadot), bounty hunter Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), ex-military mercenary Deckard Shaw, and luke evans.

Whether you’re a new fan of the Fast series or someone looking to re-watch the fast saga, we’ve broken down the films chronologically and by order of release. There is no absolute way to watch these movies, and the haphazard timelines mean they can be watched easily without putting in too much effort. See the list of the multiple films below including the first movie.

Don’t feel lost just yet, we’ve created a map of sorts for you to navigate through!

Fast and Furious films in order of release:

As a new fan of the Fast and the Furious saga, it’s best to stick to the simplest route. A major chunk of the movies follows a chronological order, with only the third entry in the franchise, “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006)”, causing some major confusion in the furious timeline.

  1. The Fast and the Furious – June 22, 2001
  2. 2 Fast 2 Furious – June 6, 2003
  3. The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift – June 16, 2006
  4. Fast & Furious – April 3, 2009
  5. Fast Five – April 29, 2011
  6. Fast & Furious 6 – May 24, 2013
  7. Furious 7 – April 3, 2015
  8. The Fate of the Furious – April 14, 2017
  9. Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw – August 2, 2019 (We’re keeping it at the end as it’s a spinoff, and not actually a part of the series)
  10. F9 – June 25, 2021

Fast and Furious movies in Chronological order of events:

Apart from The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, all of the movies follow an order of furious timeline. Though it was the third film to be released, Tokyo Drift is sandwiched between Fast & Furious 6 and Furious 7.

It introduces us to new characters such as Sean Boswell (Lucas Black), who is a student forced to move to Japan in order to avoid jail time.

In Tokyo Drift, we’re also introduced to Han Lue, a fan favorite who (SPOILER ALERT!) appears to be killed in a chase near the end of the film. Due to his immense popularity, Han was later resurrected very cleverly: all forthcoming Fast films would be set before Tokyo Drift.
