Great news for all of us who love British TV: On 2 April, there’s a brand new show hitting BBC One Wales and BBC iPlayer that I can’t wait to see. It’s called Tree on a Hill, and it’s brought to us by Ed Thomas, who’s known for the hit crime drama Hinterland.

This is his first new series since then, and it sounds like it’s going to be a fantastic watch.

Tree on a Hill is about a couple, Margaret and Clive Lewis, played by the talented Nia Roberts and Rhodri Meilir. They’re just a regular married couple who somehow find themselves breaking the law.

This dark comedy-drama is filmed in both English and Welsh and is brought to you by a team-up of Fiction Factory, S4C, BBC Wales, and All3Media International, with a little help from Tinopolis and some backing from the Welsh Government through Creative Wales.

The show promises a lot of suspense and mystery, but what’s really got me excited is the promise of some dark comedy and a bit of the bizarre thrown in – I love when shows can mix those elements well.

The absurdist comedy explores themes of ‘love, change, and belonging.’

They filmed the series in some stunning locations in the Swansea Valley, like Ystradgynlais and Abercrave, and the cast is packed with amazing Welsh actors. Alongside Roberts and Meilir, we’ll see Richard Harrington, Richard Lynch, and Hannah Daniel.

For those of you who, like me, enjoy diving into a new series all at once, you’ll be happy to know the entire series will be available on BBC iPlayer abroad on the same day it starts airing on BBC One Wales at 9 pm, 2 April. I’m marking my calendar and can’t wait to binge-watch it.

This sounds like it’s going to be another hit on British television, and I’m here for it.
