"House of the Dragon" Star Paddy Considine Shares His Thoughts on the Tragic Ending to Viserys

Paddy Considine has performed as one of the leads in “House of the Dragon,” and has reflected on his final moments in the series playing “the greatest character I’ve ever played,” as described by the actor.

Viserys is widely regarded as the show’s heart, portraying a nice man in almost all the terrible circumstances. Unfortunately, he was featured in declining health for much of the series owing to an infection that would not heal.

His character was given a dreadful feeling of impending death by the sickness which created a type of, what he termed as, “leprosy” when on the West of Westeros. The viewers were prepared for this tragedy, in contrast to the majority of the fatalities that occurred in its predecessor, Game of Thrones. Nonetheless, that did not make it any simpler.

The actor revealed on The Adam Buxton Podcast that his wife and daughter were upset while watching the scene and that his wife urged him to simply watch the conclusion of the scene.

Paddy Considine expressed his feelings over the season’s last episode:

“I didn’t watch episode eight but my wife had watched it, and my daughter, and they were pretty upset with it. My wife said, ‘Just watch the end. Years ago, I’d watched my dad die of cancer and he just went downhill rapidly from being diagnosed to being on death’s door. You know, he became skeletal so rapidly. So, when [my wife] showed me that end thing and my face came up I just burst into tears because I looked the image of my dad when he was dying, the image of him, and it was shocking. It was really, really shocking to me.I’d put so much of my mum’s characteristics into this character, Viserys, but when I saw that I thought ‘That’s my dad’ and it was terrifying. So, it was pretty impactful stuff. The King Viserys character in House of the Dragon, I think that’s probably the greatest character I’ve ever played in my eyes. The story was right. The character was right.”

The very successful first season of the HBO fantasy epic series came to an end earlier this year, and pre-production on the second season is already underway.

Those of you who have been following “Game of Thrones” may watch the series’ prequel to discover more about the Targaryen family and what brought their downfall.

The HOD’s first season surpassed HBO’s viewing records, with over 10 million people tuning in to watch the return of Westeros.

The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, which relates the narrative of the infamous and legendary Targaryen dynasty and the civil war that brought their once mighty house to collapse.

On HBO Max, you can stream all eight seasons of Game of Thrones and the first season of House of the Dragon right now.
