The upcoming movie “Army of the Dead” by Zack Snyder is getting a prequel and an animated spin-off on Netflix.
As reported by Collider, Zack Snyder has signed a deal with Netflix for the making of an “Army of the Dead” prequel and its animated series. We are not yet sure whether it is going to be an anime-style spin-off or more like an animated cartoon series.
Zack Snyder is currently working on his Justice League’s director cut that will be available for streaming on HBO Max. Whereas his movie Army of the Dead was expected to be released on Netflix this year, we may get to see it on-screen next year in 2021 due to the re-shoots.
News is that Matthias Schweighöfer, who’s a part of the main cast of the movie, will also be a part of the prequel as an actor and director both. Other cast members Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Tig Notaro, Omari Hardwick, and Ana de la Reguera will be a part of the animated series’ cast.
Zack Snyder showed his excitement in this statement:
“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to partner with Netflix again as we expand the Army of the Dead universe with both an international prequel, as well as exploring the visually dynamic world of animation.”
In a situation where the original movie itself is yet to be released, two more projects are announced under its banner, which is quite an interesting thing to see. This deal shows the amount of confidence Netflix has for Zack Snyder and that too related to an unreleased project. And this deal between Zack Snyder and Netflix has evolved the Army of the Dead into a franchise.
