“The Rock” Deemed Black Adam to Be the Most Powerful Superhero in All Universes

Black Adam - Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson raised eyebrows in July in San Diego when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Black Adam would mark the start of a “new era” for the DC Extended Universe.

Naturally, questions arose: What did he mean by this? And what would that imply for the rest of the DCEU’s cast, which includes Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam, and others?

Warner Bros.’ next superhero Black Adam, the film based on DC Comics, has been in the making since the company initially came up with the brilliant concept of casting Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a menacing Superman counterpart most famous for beefing with kids.

In Black Adam, you can clearly see Warner Bros.’ optimism and trust in the concept that a darker, more violent antiheroic character would be precisely what their embattled cinematic universe of cape pictures needs to pull itself out of what seems to be a death spiral.

The narrative of Teth-Adam (Johnson), an ancient, magically powerful demigod who initially roamed the Earth as a mortal man thousands of years ago in the fictitious Middle Eastern kingdom of Kahndaq, is shared in the movie Black Adam by filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra.

Though the majority of Black Adam is set in present-day Kahndaq and follows Teth-Adam as he attempts to figure out what happened to his country after he left one day in the past, the film also goes back to his life as an average guy to show you what motivates him to be the way he is.

However, as Black Adam approached cinemas, Johnson confirmed his stance in a recent interview:

“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Black Adam, which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. (That would be Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That is DJ’s Black Adam.)

“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That’s why you see in Black Adam, we acknowledge everyone: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There’s also some Easter eggs in there, too. So that’s what I meant by the resetting. Maybe ‘resetting’ wasn’t a good term. It’s expanding.”

Only one of the supes mentioned may claim to be the most powerful. And, when gently pushed, Johnson claims that his invincible 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior, Teth-Adam, is the most powerful superhero in any world, DC, Marvel, or otherwise.

The mystery surrounding the DC Comics movies that have been produced in the previous seven years is a fascinating one. As a result, watching DC Movies in the order they were released is a process that is naturally gratifying. Here is how you can watch DC movies in chronological order so far.

“Without a doubt,” Johnson says. “By the way, it’s not hyperbole because we made the movie. And we made him this powerful. He has powers that are rival to that of Superman. But the difference is he’s got an attitude. And if you try to hurt him or his people, well, there’s a problem. He becomes your biggest threat. So I do believe that Black Adam is the most powerful and unstoppable force on this planet.”

Neither Black Adam nor its scene set during the credits will let down viewers who have been anticipating a grand, over-the-top celebration of how powerful Black Adam is. At the same time, it eliminates most of the narrative context that gives him his place in DC Comics’ canon and allows him to function effectively there.

However, for those who are keeping their fingers crossed that Black Adam will genuinely mark the beginning of a new age of high-quality and thought-provoking superhero films produced by Warner Bros., there is always the possibility that the next film he appears in will be a decent one.

In addition to them, Marwan Kenzari, Mohammed Amer, and Uli Latukefu also feature in Black Adam. On October 21st, the film will be released in cinemas.
