It’s an absolute shocker: Your favorite show, gone in a flash from your go-to streaming service!
This nightmare scenario is becoming all too common as streaming giants slash their libraries to save some money. Well. Paramount Plus just dropped a bombshell by yanking “The Gold” right out from under us, leaving fans outraged and bewildered. I am furious!
Starring a powerhouse cast with Hugh Bonneville, Dominic Cooper, Charlotte Spencer, and Jack Lowden, “The Gold” dives into the thrilling tale of the 1983 London Brink’s-Mat heist. Despite rave reviews and a smashing 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, not to mention a green light for season two from the BBC, Paramount Plus has abruptly left US fans high and dry.
I found out something was wrong when I saw confused subscribers turn detectives on forums like Reddit, uncovering that The Gold had vanished without a trace over a month ago.
It’s pretty much confirmed that Paramount Plus’s rights to this hit show expired just a year after its debut. But why ditch a show still in production for its next season?

Well, apparently, Paramount has mysteriously stepped back from producing The Gold, as a cost-cutting move amid financial turmoil and merger murmurs.
While fans may be left wanting, this drama off-screen might just be the most gripping episode yet for The Gold. The sad part is that the series was launched only a few months ago in September of 2023, so naturally not many people have had their fill of it yet.

Also, it’s no secret that Paramount Global is cutting back on international content in its libraries worldwide, choosing not to release some anticipated non-U.S. shows and films as part of its strategy to manage costs and “prioritize content with the largest impact.” This includes a shift towards major U.S. studio franchises and scaling back on locally produced, international originals.
In fact, I have had reports that confirm that Paramount+ in various international locations has begun to pull international original content, including the movie At Midnight with Monica Barbaro of Top Gun: Maverick fame, the Brazilian series Marcelo, Marmelo, Martelo, and the British drama No Escape.
Does this move bode well for the streaming giant?
Only time will tell.
I’ll go figure out how to watch The Gold somewhere else!
