Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber are doing everything they can to put to rest speculations that the two of them are at odds.
Even though it has been speculated for a long time that the two celebrities had a falling out because of their mutual attraction to the singer Justin Bieber with whom Gomez had a protracted on-off relationship for years before they finally broke up for good in 2018, the same year that he married the model who was then known as Hailey Baldwin.
The two were all smiles at the star-studded Academy Museum Gala held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on Saturday night.
Bieber, who is 25 years old, and Gomez, who is 30 years old, can be seen posing for the camera while holding hands in a shot that was posted by photographer Tyrell Hampton.
The snapshot, which has swiftly spurred speculation on social media about the health of the women’s relationship, was captioned by Hamton with the word “Plot twist,” which has raised eyebrows among viewers.
Chrissy Rutherford, a fashion editor, observed that “Nature is healing,” while Tommy Dorfman, a star of the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why, said that he “Love watching the reverse of global warming and everybody’s skin clearing from this pic.”
The gesture of support comes only a few weeks after Bieber addressed rumors that her relationship with her pop star husband overlapped with Gomez’s. The “Sorry” singer began dating Gomez in 2010, parted in 2012, reconnected in 2013, split again in 2014, then reconnected in late 2017 before parting in early 2018. Justin and his future bride dated from 2014 to 2016, before reconnecting in June 2018 after his divorce from Gomez. Justin and Hailey were officially married by September of that year.
When Justin reunited with Hailey, he claimed to Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast last month that he and the Only Murders in the Building actress “weren’t in a relationship.”
“As a woman, I would never want to get into a relationship with someone — and be engaged to them and be getting married to them — and be thinking the back of my mind: I wonder if that door was really closed. I know for a fact that the reason we were able to get back together was because it was very much completely closed,” she told Cooper.
At the occasion, Selena Gomez went personal and discussed her own mental health struggle. The Only Murders in the Building’s 30-year-old actress talked strongly about “destigmatizing” mental illness.
Meanwhile, Selena Gomez’s new documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, will premiere on Apple TV+ on November 4th, but it’s unknown if the film will discuss her high-profile relationships with Bieber and The Weeknd, the latter of whom she dated for part of 2017.
